Raphael Saadiq and Miles Caton sing the blues of “Sinners” at Kimmel

Music news

Göransson co-wrote this blues-inspired song with director Ryan Coogler for the film “Sinners”a soundtrack on which Raphael Saadiq put his masterful touch.

Raphael Saadiq, actor Miles Caton and producer Ludwig Göransson joined forces on the show Jimmy Kimmel Live to perform “I Lied to You,” a song from the acclaimed Ryan Coogler film, Sinners.

The trio performed this blues piece, performed by Caton in the film, alongside a group of backing vocalists. They opted for a stripped-down production on stage, focusing on the song itself for this impressive performance.

Caton plays Samuel “Sammie” Moore, an aspiring blues singer, in Coogler's southern horror film, set in 1932 in the Mississippi Delta. Göransson composed the film's music and developed its soundtrack, which includes several original numbers and performances from other cast members like Jack O'Connell and Lola Kirke. Saadiq co-wrote “I Lied to You” with Göransson.

Heading to the Oscars?

In December, the Academy announced that “I Lied to You” had been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Song. Another track from the film, “Last Time (I Seen the Sun),” also made the list.

Sunday, Sinners won the Audience Award at the Golden Globes. This year marked the debut of this category. WECB described this as “victory for the most daring of the nominated films (if not of all the releases this year). Ryan Coogler's Sinners, with its unique combination of vampires, blues and dark history, is enough to make the whole thing worth it. In his speech, Coogler thanked the audience “for coming” — making it clear he wasn't sure his gamble would pay off. »
