In 2025 the Italian public spent over a billion euros to go to concerts, an incredible record with an increase of 21% compared to 2024.
The number emerges from the first data presented in preview by AssoConcerti's annual research, dedicated to the impact and prospects of concerts in the area. The study, which will be presented in its entirety next October, was at the center of the panel “The role of live music in the development of tourism and in the cultural, social and economic growth of territories” as part of the Trento Economics Festival organized by Il Sole 24 Ore.
A sector that confirms constant growth in the post-pandemic period: according to the data provided by SIAE relating to the numbers of the “Pop, rock and light” genre, 40,324 shows took place during the year, for a total of 26,371,010 spectators and a total public expenditure of 1,089,248,353 euros.
With growth in 2025 of 42% compared to the previous year, our members continue to represent the heart of the system, covering almost 70% of the market”, declared Bruno Sconocchia. “Live music guarantees capillarity and cultural diffusion throughout the national territory, from large cities to small towns, creating opportunities for aggregation, meeting and social participation”.
The over 40,000 shows and 26 million spectators confirm how concerts are a powerful driver of musical tourism, with significant repercussions on transport, hospitality, catering and local commerce.
The research, carried out in collaboration with the University of Pisa, highlights that in 2025 the overall economic impact of the sector reached 4.3 billion euros.
Among the most significant cases of 2024 are the Taylor Swift concerts in Milan and David Gilmour in Rome: in the first case, 77% of the spectators came from outside the region, with a foreign share of 30%, an average individual expenditure of 570 euros and an economic impact of 73 million euros; in the second, 83% of the public came from other regions, with foreigners at 43%, an average expenditure of 827 euros and impacts of 60 million euros. Nationally, the estimate for 2025 exceeds 11 million room nights related to live music events.
As with every sector, an industrial policy is necessary”, underlined Bruno Sconocchia, addressing the institutions, “Contemporary popular music is now to all intents and purposes an industry: a definition that describes the complexity of the sector, the organizational and operational models, the extent of the investments required and the economic and employment benefits generated. We are not asking for welfare, but for tools capable of supporting a fundamental and strategic element for culture, well-being, social cohesion and employment, also due to the important effects on tourism and the local economy”.
I have come to the conclusion of strongly supporting this industrial system, which is represented here by Bruno Sconocchia and, in general, by the music industry which is a very important sector of the culture industry”, explained the Minister of Tourism Hon. Gianmarco Mazzi. “Because even music that is defined as 'light' is an expression of culture, as President Mattarella also underlined. And I like the term 'light', because in a world dominated by heaviness, those who bring lightness are welcome. This awareness of mine was consolidated precisely when I was at Culture. Perhaps pop music is an even stronger cultural form than sport: it is a human relationship that brings more unity, union, sharing, brotherhood, collegiality. When you go to see a concert there are 100,000 people, all there to have fun. This is a world that is a heritage to be supported”, concluded the Minister.
