Amy's mother, Janis, who has never spoken out in depth before, wants to reclaim her daughter's legacy, celebrating Amy as the complex, strong, incredible woman she was, and telling a version of events that often differs from the singer's story that's been told so far.

Janis lives with multiple sclerosis, a disease that risks robbing her of memories of her daughter. With the help of those who knew Amy best, including friends Naomi, Chantelle, Catriona and Michael, who have never spoken publicly before, Janis reconstructs aspects of her daughter that have rarely been shown and never fully understood.

The family is still grieving for Amy. After his death, they placed most of his belongings in storage, which Janis is now reopening for the first time. Facing the pain and tragedy of their loss, Janis is passionate about ensuring that Amy is remembered as an extraordinary force of nature, capable of bringing joy and joy to everything she did.

Janis' ex-husband Mitch, who was often at her daughter Amy's side throughout her career, speaks candidly about the criticism she faced and reveals the support family and friends gave Amy during her battle with addiction. Tracing Amy's rise to fame and the impact of the media attention that came with it, as well as private tragedies such as the loss of her grandmother, the film challenges the idea that Amy's problems stemmed from an unhappy childhood and her parents' divorce. The film also explores the truth about his struggles with addiction and shows that he was facing far more serious mental health challenges than previously understood.

With access to previously unpublished family archive material and rare musical performances, this deeply personal and poignant account of the life and death of one of Britain's best-loved musicians offers a fresh take on her life, loves and legacy.
