The story of one of the most iconic musical programs on Italian television continues this evening on Rai 2: “Formidabile Discoring Forever”, the fourth episode of the series dedicated to Discoring, the historic format created by Gianni Boncompagni in 1977.
The broadcast retraces the epic of a program that for over a decade has chronicled the evolution of pop and rock music, becoming a point of reference for entire generations. Through archive images, performances, theme tunes and testimonies, the documentary conveys the climate of an era in which generalist television represented one of the main windows on international music.
Over the course of its 14 editions and over 400 episodes, Discoring has hosted some of the most significant names on the Italian and world scene: from Dire Straits to Elton John, from Village People to Earth, Wind & Fire, passing through Prefab Sprout, Alan Sorrenti, Ivano Fossati, Mia Martini, Loredana Bertè, Francesco De Gregori and Christopher Cross.
To give further depth to the story are the testimonies of some protagonists who lived through that television season. Contributors featured in the program include Ami Stewart, Fabrice Quagliotti, Jocelyn, Tony Esposito, Matia Bazar, Savage, Ivan Cattaneo and Daisuke.
More than a simple nostalgia operation, “Formidabile Discoring Forever” presents itself as a fresco of Italian pop culture between the end of the Seventies and the Eighties, when music still came from television and programs like Discoring contributed to building the collective imagination of the country.
