King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard invited Max Weinberg, drummer of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, to the stage at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens on Friday, August 21. A week after the arrival of his son Jay, ex-Slipknot who became a recurring guest of the Australian group, the 75-year-old drummer traveled from Atlantic City for a long version of “Hot Water”.
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard brought a surprise guest, Max Weinberg, to its Friday concert in Queens, just a week after the E Street Band drummer’s son, Jay, joined the band on stage.
In recent years, former Slipknot drummer Jay Weinberg has made a number of appearances with the Australian psychedelic rockers, including last weekend at Field of Visions II, the band’s three-night festival in Colorado.
With King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard holding three dates at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens this weekend, the band was hoping to bring back Jay.
The longtime drummer for Bruce Springsteen and Conan O’Brien then casually walked on stage, drumsticks in hand. “There, I just got stressed”blurted Walker. Weinberg then joined the group as second drummer for an extended version of their “Hot Water”.
The King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard concert series at Forest Hills Stadium concludes Saturday night; the band will then hop from county to county, heading to Brooklyn, for a show at Under the K Bridge Park on Sunday.
