MARK KNOPFLER New album “One Deep River” released April 12th

Music news

“One Deep River” is Mark Knopfler’s new album which will be released on April 12th.

His tenth solo album on his own British Grove label via EMI, features 12 elegant new Knopfler tracks, where his warm tone of voice, poetic lyrics and guitar playing are strongly present but never out of place and as always dazzling .

The first single from the album precedes the album Ahead Of The Game, a melancholic, perhaps autobiographical, story about a singer-songwriter struggling to make it, told on a classic, typically Knopfleresque riff.

The title track One Deep River reflects Knopfler’s deep emotional connection to the river that runs through his hometown Newcastle. “Crossing the Tyne is always on your mind,” he says. “You did it as a child and the feeling remains the same every time you do it. When you leave the city or when you return this element always connects to your childhood, and its power does not go away.”

“One Deep River” offers an uninterrupted flow of future Knopfler classics, characterized by the usual cultured lyrics and refined guitar textures. They draw on a history of influences that cross the genres of blues, folk, rock and beyond, revealing their charm with grace and depth as always.

One Deep River was produced by Knopfler together with his long-time collaborator Guy Fletcher and recorded at British Grove Studios in London.

The band behind the sounds of One Deep River features Mark Knopfler on guitars, Jim Cox and Guy Fletcher on keyboards, Glenn Worf on bass, Ian Thomas on drums and Danny Cummings on percussion, Richard Bennett on second guitar and newbie Greg Leisz on pedal steel guitar; Mike McGoldrick played flute and bagpipes, John McCusker played violin, and backing vocals were performed by sisters Emma and Tamsin Topolski. All songs were written by Mark Knopfler.

The album will be available on CD, 2CD deluxe, black and colored double LP and in a limited edition box which will include the album on CD and vinyl, 5 bonus tracks on CD and 4 on vinyl, a lithograph of Mark together with the guitars played on the record, a set of plectrums and an enamel badge. The deluxe box will be available exclusively on the Universal Music Italia shop, the colored double LP exclusively on Discoteca Laziale.
