Review: ANNA - “Million Dollar Babe”

Two years ago we closed the review of “Vera Baddie” wondering if the next step for Anna was Sanremo and a transversal audience.

None of this happened. No Ariston stage, no prime time transversality. And in fact “Million Dollar Babe” comes from there, from the fact that Anna has stopped asking herself what she has to prove and to whom.

In the Italian rap and trap scene of 2026, she remains the only woman that no one dares to underestimate. The only one that her male colleagues, those full of testosterone and empty of arguments, treat with respect because they know that if they open their mouths she will asphalt them in the bar.

Two years of hype built well, sometimes too much: the flexing on this album reaches almost caricature levels, and doesn't always work in favor of the story.

Because the story is there, and it is that of someone who has learned to recognize her own value.

“I come from nothing” opens the album as a reminder that Anna seems to write more for herself than for the listener. From then on the album works on the contradictions of success: status and glory on the one hand, emptiness and loneliness on the other. It's not a new concept in rap, but Anna treats it with a clarity that in 2024 she still didn't fully have.

On the sound side, with Miles' complete direction and production, the album tries to do a lot, perhaps too much. There is the declared k-pop of White Girl Wastedthere is the trap obsession of I'm the pass, there's the stretched reggaeton of Catalanthe romantic pop a bit like Giorgia Heart off, the champion of Macarena with the feat of G. Mineiro, the retro house of Honey and closing with Poisonwhich sounds like the opening of a different chapter.

The collaborations are few and targeted: Lazza, G. Mineiro, Astro, Tony Boy. No desperate hunt for an easy hit, and this must be fully recognized.
Yet another demonstration that she is the boss!

The problem is that variety sometimes becomes dispersion. A record that goes from k-pop to retro house in the space of a few tracks risks losing the thread, and here it happens more than once. Anna remains credible line by line, but the overall architecture of the album struggles to hold together everything she wants to say.

The fact remains that no other Italian artist today occupies the space that she does.

“Million Dollar Babe” does not answer the question of whether Anna really became the Million Dollar Babe of the title. But it confirms that he has already had the throne of the scene in his pocket for some time.
